2004 Club Report

October 2007

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Alumni and Friends,

The Lehigh University Alumni Club of Philadelphia has had a fantastic year, packed with many great events! The alumni of the Philadelphia area attended exhibits at The Franklin Institute, and enjoyed
“A Taste of Philly” at the Incoming Student Sendoff. In this broad range of events that touched on every interest, the Lehigh family continues to show its support. As the Club of Philadelphia works to promote Lehigh in the Philadelphia area, we seek to strengthen relationships within the Lehigh family. During the upcoming year, the Club is again focused on attracting additional volunteers for the Club Board of Directors, as well as continuing to host events of varied and diverse interest.

As Lehigh graduates, we are all aware of the importance of strong alumni connections. These connections are what continue to motivate the board to organize events, and keep the club going. What better way is there to strengthen your own alumni connections than to become a volunteer with the board? We are currently in need of a Secretary and Webmaster, and are always looking for alumni interested in planning events. If you are interested in learning more about the responsibilities of the board or volunteering for the club, please join us for one of our monthly board meetings. Feel free to contact me, I would be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

Sincerely,

Melissa Glozman ’94
President, Lehigh Alumni Club of Philadelphia

YEAR IN REVIEW

The Year in Review

The past year’s events were as diverse as they were fun, and included some of our annual favorites, as well as new events:

January 2007
January 14th
The 2nd annual New Board Member Reception proved to be a great way to learn more about the Club and meet the current Board of Directors. The club was pleased to welcome its newest members, and looks forward to more additions to the board in the future.

April 2007
April 14th
We continued our relationship with the Special Olympics of Delaware County by volunteering to assist and coach their annual bowling and swim events.

April 21st
Our tour of the Crayola Factory was an exciting joint event, hosted in cooperation with the Home Club in Easton, PA. The event was well attended by many of our alumni with young families, and was a great way to involve families with the Club.

June 2007
June 10th
The King Tut exhibition at The Franklin Institute was a sold out event. Our host,
Mike Glasheen ’67, kindly arranged for lunch and a brief movie on King Tut for some background information before everyone headed over to the popular exhibit.

July 2007
July 26th
The annual Incoming Student Sendoff, which again had the theme “A Taste of Philly,” was our most popular event of the year with over 50 alumni, family and friends welcoming area members of the Class of 2011. Lehigh Alumni Club of Philadelphia President Emeritus Tom Ramsey ’67 hosted the gathering. Continuing in the tradition of past Incoming Student Sendoffs, the Club presented a deserving member of the Class of 2011 with a $500 Book Award for their outstanding work in writing an essay about their Lehigh experience, and what they hope to gain from four years on South Mountain.

September 2007
September 19th
The Club hosted a wine tasting event with Sommelier Michael McCaulley. “From Beer to Wine,” a basic wine education course planned with the younger alumni in mind, was subsidized by the club and was a sell-out event. It proved to be a blast for beer and wine drinkers alike!

October 2007
October 6th
The Club got in the Halloween spirit with an afternoon of hayrides and pumpkin picking at Linvilla Orchards. Alumni and their families enjoyed the warm early fall weather with these favorite autumn activities.

October 19th
Lehigh's Philadelphians enjoyed an evening of jazz performed by vocalist Jackie Ryan, followed by an audio tour of the landscape paintings of the renowned artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

October 24th
The Lehigh Club of Philadelphia gave a warm welcome to Lehigh University’s first female President, Alice P. Gast at the Philadelphia Presidential Reception.

November 2007
November 17th
The historic 143rd meeting of the most-played rivalry in college sports, the Lehigh/ Lafayette football game, was telecast to alumni clubs across the country.

December 2008
December 8th
The Lehigh Club of Philadelphia gave back to the city with the Philabundance community service project.
