LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Alumni and Friends,
As President of Lehigh University’s Home Club, please allow me to welcome you all to another year in which the Home Club will offer a series of exciting events and benefits for our members. Also, please join me in re-welcoming our officers, Vice President Diana Rodebaugh ‘04, Secretary Dennis Zehner ‘99 and Treasurer John Berseth ‘67.
As many of you know, the mission of the Home Club is to promote strong relationships between you, the University and the many other Lehigh alumni located in our geographic region. As an organization, one of the principle functions of the Home Club is to arrange events that allow local alumni to reconnect with each other and, in many cases, to take advantage of the fact that we live in close proximity to one of the nation’s leading universities.
Over the past year, the Home Club has sponsored a number of annual events. In the winter of 2007, we sponsored Lehigh’s Career Networking Night as well as our Wrestling Sendoff at the Bethlehem Club, with special guest Coach Greg Strobel. Coach Strobel provided his insights into Lehigh Wrestling prior to the EIWA Tourney. Home Club members were also treated to a private tour of the renovations to Linderman Library by Tony Corallo, the Associate Vice President of Facilities Services, and enjoyed dinner afterwards at Starter’s Riverport. We also sponsored several family events including the Harlem Globetrotters at Stabler Arena as well as a day at the Crayola Factory co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Club. In the spring, the Home Club hosted the first annual Lehigh-Patriot League golf outing at Southmoore Country Club.
Over the summer of 2007, the Home Club hosted the annual Incoming Student Sendoff where our featured speaker was alumnus, LU parent and athletic director, Joe Sterrett ’76, ‘78G, ‘03P, ‘05P, ‘07P, ‘09P. The sendoff was held on campus, and again drew record attendance from both incoming Lehigh Valley freshmen and their parents.
The Home Club also has a full calendar of events for the upcoming year. This fall, we sponsored an evening at the newly opened Allentown BrewWorks with Allentown Mayor Ed Palowski. We also held our traditional Lehigh-Lafayette pub night on November 15th and sponsored a family event at the DaVinci Center.
However, these events are but one of many benefits of Home Club membership. Other benefits include: reduced rates for Home Club members at events for which there is a fee; advance notice of many events for which there is limited availability; and the ability to provide financial support to deserving students through our scholarship fund. Membership in the Home Club also allows you to suggest events that appeal to you and to take an active role in organizing such an event.
These events and benefits would not exist without your continued support. The cost for joining and/or renewing your membership is fifteen dollars ($15.00) if you graduated in 1997 or later and twenty-five dollars ($25.00) if you graduated before 1997. This amount may be paid electronically on the Home Club’s website at www.lehighhomeclub.org. For those of you who paid dues last year but did not receive a membership card, we will offer a $5 dollar discount off the 2007-2008 dues and my personal apology for any inconvenience.
Also, we are proud to offer our “lifetime” Home Club membership for a one-time cost of $200. To date, we have approximately fifteen (15) individuals who have purchased lifetime memberships and I thank them for their support.
I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to begin or renew your involvement with the Home Club. If you have any questions, you can contact me at smhart@flammlaw.com. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, please allow me to thank you for your anticipated support.
Very Truly Yours
Sean M. Hart, Esq. ‘90
